It would appear Sean Strickland, currently the #7 ranked fighter in the UFC middleweight division, is considering a move up to light heavyweight in the near future.
In response to a question on Twitter about if he was making a move up to 205 pounds, Strickland replied “No one at middleweight to fight… or at least not for 6 months. Plenty of guys at 205”.

Strickland is 26-5 and coming off a win over Nassourdine Imavov in his most recent fight back in January. It would appear that the UFC has other plans involving the top six fighters in the middleweight division for the foreseeable future, meaning a move up might not be the worst decision for the longtime UFC veteran.
There are plenty of potential fights at light heavyweight against fighters in the bottom half of the rankings for Strickland that would be favorable matchups for him on paper, so at the very least, there’s a path for him to get back to roughly the same position in the Top 15 at 205 pounds if he were to make the move up.
Do you think Sean Strickland should make the jump to light heavyweight? If so, who are some of the fighters you would like to potentially see him face in his debut in the new weight class? Let us know your thoughts on the situation below!
