UFC Vegas 91: Nicolau vs Perez – Picks, Predictions & Betting Card

After a weekend off to process the fallout of UFC 300, we’re back to the Apex this weekend for UFC Vegas 91. The card features 13 bouts and will be headlined by Matheus Nicolau and Alex Perez in a clash of ranked flyweights. While there are a few fun matchups on this lineup, you can definitely still feel the effects of the promotion stacking so much of their top talent into UFC 299 and 300.

My favorite picks on this card are Victor Henry, Uros Medic, Karine Silva and Ryan Spann. Henry will look to get back into the win column against 39-year-old Rani Yahya and I love this matchup for him. Yahya is pretty sub or bust or at this point in his career, while Henry has never been stopped. Henry will be the more active and dangerous striker in this matchup, and I like his chances of finding a KO/TKO stoppage at some point.

Medic will be 9 years younger than his opponent Tim Means, and while Means looked pretty decent against Andre Fialho in his last one, I don’t think he’ll find the same success here. Medic has a 100% finish rate and won’t head hunt with a one-dimensional approach the way Fialho chose to against Means. Means has been stopped in 9 of his 15 losses and I think Medic keeps his perfect finish rate intact here with another one.

Silva is 17-4 with a 100% finish rate and looks like she could be a special talent in the UFC Women’s Flyweight division. While she’ll be taking a step up in competition here, Silva has already proven to be solid at this level racking up 3 straight first round submissions to start her UFC run. Ariane Lipski (who will be going by Ariane da Silva from now on) has never been submitted, but she has been stopped by KO/TKO in 4 of her 8 losses. I think Silva will be able to ground this one out and should be able to find a TKO stoppage down the stretch.

Ryan Spann is one of the most dangerous and well-rounded fighters in the UFC Light Heavyweight division, however, he doesn’t always display the best fight IQ and has a tendency to put himself into bad positions sometimes. As long as Spann doesn’t get overly reckless early, he should coast in this matchup against Bogdan Guskov. Spann would be wise to the try to ground this one out where he would have a sizeable advantage on the ground. He has 12 wins via submission in his career, and I think Spann can add another one here.

For the betting card this weekend, I’m keeping things relatively light and sprinkling around on the spots that I liked the most with four prop bets and one two-leg parlay. The prop bets: Karine Silva by KO/TKO (+500 for .25 units), Silva by R2/3 KO/TKO (+1000 for .25 units), Spann/Guskov Ends in R2 (+500 for .25 units) and Spann by R1/2 Submission (+260 for .5 units). The Silva KO/TKO lines are available at FanDuel, and while the method line has since dropped to +420, it’s still playable at +350 or better in my opinion. The two-leg parlay is Henry by KO/TKO + Medic by KO/TKO at +475 for .5 units. That’s a total of 1.75 units out across the five bets. I might try to add a late cross card play that carries over into UFC 301 next weekend, so keep an eye on our social accounts throughout the day. I hope everyone enjoys the fights and best of luck to the bettors!
