UFC 313: Pereira vs Ankalaev – Picks, Predictions, Betting Card & More

It’s Fight Day for UFC 313 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas! We have a really fun lineup on deck tonight capped off with a lightweight rematch that should be a banger and Alex Pereira defending his UFC Light Heavyweight title against Magomed Ankalaev. All 24 fighters successfully made weight during the weigh-in for the event yesterday.

My favorite picks on this one are Mauricio Ruffy, Carlos Leal, Joshua Van and Rafael Fiziev. Ruffy gets a big matchup with longtime UFC veteran King Green and will attempt to get his biggest win to date in the promotion. Ruffy is coming off a decision win over James Llontop up at welterweight, but I think there’s a good chance he gets another KO/TKO here after catching Green on the feet.

Carlos Leal will be facing Alex Morono and looking for his first win in the UFC, and while I don’t love the betting line attached to him, I do think he’ll get the job done here. Leal should be able to stay on his feet easier against Morono than he did in his debut, and he’ll land the better shots in the striking exchanges to pick up find a TKO down the stretch or get this one done on the cards.

Joshua Van is 5-1 so far in the UFC and has a chance to make another statement if he can take the “0” from his opponent Rei Tsuruya in this one. Van is a solid striker with good power for the division and has good takedown defense. As long as Van can fight off a majority of the takedowns and not get grounded out, I think he’ll get this one done on the scorecards via better striking and more damage.

Had trouble settling on a fourth pick but settled on Fiziev in his return from a fairly lengthy injury layoff. Normally I avoid fighters in those situations, especially when they’re on short notice, but Gaethje is also returning from a pretty lengthy layoff after the brutal KO he took at UFC 300 against Max Holloway. Fiziev has been calling for an opponent for months publicly, so I assume he’s in good enough shape to stay at range and get this one done on the cards since it’s only a three-round fight.

For the betting card this weekend, I’m taking things pretty easy with a couple of straight bets and small parlays. The straight bets are Ozzy Diaz ML (+170 for .5 units), Pereira/Ankalaev to Go the Distance – Yes (+195 for .5 units), and Amanda Lemos by Decision (+240 for .5 units). The parlays are Joshua Van ML + Lemos ML (+240 for .5 units) and Chris Gutierrez ML + Armen Petrosyan ML + Ruffy ML (+299 for.5 units). That’s a total of five tracked bets for 2.5 units.

While the main event is a tough one to call, I think there’s a pretty decent chance this one ends up going long and most likely sees the scorecards. I think Ankalaev will have a bit of success with his wrestling to neutralize a bit of Alex’s power and see this one being a pretty close decision on the cards. For Diaz and Lemos, I like Diaz dropping down to middleweight for his matchup and think Lemos experience will be just a bit too much for Lucindo in a good fight.
