It’s Fight Day for UFC Edmonton as the promotion heads back north of the border for what should be a pretty fun card. This one is topped by a pair of flyweight matchups with Brandon Moreno and Amir Albazi facing off in the main event, while Erin Blanchfield and Rose Namajunas battle it out to stay in title contention in the women’s flyweight division. All fighters made weight at yesterday’s weigh-in, however, Derrick Lewis was forced to drop out of his matchup with Jhonata Diniz with a non-weight related medical issue. That leaves the card with 13 matchups.
My favorite picks on this card are Mike Malott, Jasmine Jasudavicius, Youssef Zalal and Erin Blanchfield. Malott had a rough outing in his last fight, gassing out bad down the stretch of a fight he was dominating and ultimately got stopped late by Neil Magny. As long as Malott does a better job of managing his cardio, this is an excellent spot to bounce back. While Trevin Giles is a solid fighter, he’s been stopped in all six of his losses and will certainly be in danger of another here against Malott. Jasudavicius and Da Silva was bumped up to the main card after Lewis/Diniz was scrapped and it should be a fun matchup. I expect Jasmine to look for takedowns and be able to hold her own in the striking exchanges to pick this one up via decision or late TKO stoppage.
Zalal has looked great recently, winning his last five fights overall and going 2-0 since returning to the UFC. While he has a solid opponent here in Jack Shore, Zalal should be as good or better everywhere in this fight. I think Zalal gets this one done on the cards in a really fun fight. Erin Blanchfield is coming off a tough loss to Manon Fiorot where she struggled heavily on the feet in a lopsided decision loss, but I like this spot for her to bounce back. While Thug Rose is still one of the top women’s fighters on the planet, most of her best work has been at strawweight. I expect Blanchfield to have the strength advantage in this one as the naturally bigger fighter and it will help her get this one to the ground where she excels. While Blanchfield will definitely be live for a submission if she gets the fight on the ground, also keep an eye out for the newly legalized 12-6 elbows in this one.
For the betting card this weekend, I’m keeping things very light since there isn’t much I love on this one. I took a shot on Blanchfield to Win by KO/TKO or Submission (+400 for .5 units) and a three-leg parlay consisting of Alexandr Romanov ML + Jasudavicius ML + Malott to Win in R1/2 (+440 for .5 units). I also have a parlay coming into the weekend needing Jasudavicius ML and Malott ML to cash. That’s a total of two bets for one unit on this card. Keep an eye on our social media accounts for any late additions to the betting card.
This should be a pretty entertaining card to kick things off for the month of November. Next weekend we have UFC Vegas 100, which will be the 100th fight night card from the Apex, followed by UFC 309 on November 16th from MSG headlined by Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic for the UFC Heavyweight title. I hope everybody enjoys the fights tonight and best of luck to everyone on their bets!
