We’re headed back to the Apex today for UFC Vegas 92, which will be headlined by a featherweight matchup between Edson Barboza and Lerone Murphy. Barboza, who is a long-time veteran of the promotion, will look for his second straight main event upset while Murphy will be putting his unbeaten record on the line in his first headline bout with the company. There are 11 other matchups scheduled for the event and there were no weight misses yesterday morning during the weigh-in.
My favorite picks this week are Adrian Yanez and Abus Magomedov. Normally, I try to have four fighters in this section, but between this being a fairly low-confidence card for me and having shorter-than-usual prep time for it travelling back from UFC St. Louis, I decided to stick with two this week. Yanez is coming off back-to-back losses after a 5-0 start with the promotion and I think this a great spot for him to get back on track. Vinicius Salvador has shown to be very hittable thus far in his UFC run and Yanez will have the striking to light him up if he gets too reckless on the feet. I like Yanez’s chances of finding the KO/TKO win in this one. Magomedov is also coming into his fight with Warlley Alves off back-to-back losses, but he should have a favorable matchup here to get back in the win column too. Alves has lost 3 straight and has been stopped in 4 of his 7 losses, which isn’t ideal when facing an opponent with an 80% stoppage rate in their wins. I think Magomedov will be able to catch Alves sometime in the first two rounds for a KO/TKO win.
Much like the favorite picks this weekend, the betting card is also lighter than usual for this one since I didn’t want to force any action. The only official play that I have out for this one is Hill/Pinheiro to end by Split/Majority Decision (+250 for .5 units). I also have a couple of untracked parlays going that include Yanez by KO/TKO, Magomedov by KO/TKO or Decision, and Yanez by KO/TKO or Decision, along with Oleksandr Usyk ML in his matchup with Tyson Fury. Unfortunately, there isn’t an event scheduled for next weekend, so we’ll be back again in two weeks for UFC 302, which will be headlined by Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier for the Lightweight title. In the meantime, keep an eye out next week for new additions to the Gallery and for the return of my Fighter Spotlight articles that I write for WagerWire.
