It’s Fight Day and we’re back in the Apex once again this weekend for UFC Vegas 89. The card features 13 fights and will be headlined by Amanda Ribas and Rose Namajunas in a ranked flyweight matchup. As I mentioned last week with UFC Vegas 88, this is another one of the UFC Fight Night cards that’s a little light on name recognition and depth between UFC 299 and 300, but there’s still a few good matchups as usual that should be fun to watch and hopefully some good betting spots as well. In a bit of a rare occurrence these days, there were no weight misses on this one yesterday at the weigh-in.
My favorite picks on this card are Rose Namajunas, Billy Quarantillo, Karl Williams and Mick Parkin. Thug Rose will be attempting to halt a two-fight losing skid in this matchup and I honestly love this spot for her. I expect Rose to dictate where this fight takes place and to be the better striker on the feet. Three out of four Ribas losses have been via KO/TKO, and I could see Namajunas adding another to the count. Quarantillo vs Youssef Zalal should be a fun fight, but I think Quarantillo will be the more dangerous fighter in this one and should get it done via decision. It’s worth noting there has been a ton of line movement with action on Zelal this week and there’s video circulating that appears to show Billy Q favoring his left arm at the faceoffs, so I wouldn’t load up, but I still trust Quarantillo here unless that arm is legitimately injured going in. Williams will need to be careful in the opening minutes against Justin Tafa, but I think he’ll be able to wear Tafa out down the stretch in this one assuming Williams weathers that early storm. I also really like Mick Parkin in his matchup against Muhammad Usman. Despite being 3-0 in the UFC, Usman hasn’t been overly impressive in any of those wins, and I expect Parkin will be the more dangerous fighter in this matchup on the feet or the ground. I think there’s a solid chance Parkin can get this one done inside the distance for his first UFC stoppage win.
For the betting card this weekend, I have three parlays and seven prop bets open. As I mentioned earlier in the week, Billy Quarantillo and Rose Namajunas on a two-leg parlay at +124 for .5 units was my first play of the week. Since there has been heavy line movement the opposite direction on the Quarantillo/Zelal fight, you should be able to find it at a better price if you still want to tail with Billy Q now as a slight underdog. The other two parlays: Johns/Gibson Ov2.5 Rounds + Billy Q ML + Williams ML (+279 for .5 units) and Namajunas ML + Erin Blanchfield ML (+145 for 1 unit, cross-card play with Blanchfield headlining UFC Atlantic City next weekend against Manon Fiorot). The prop bets for this one: Parkin by KO/TKO (+515 for .25 units), Pajuelo by Decision (+550 for .25 units), Talbott/Saaiman Split or Majority Decision – Yes (+350 for .25 units), Williams by KO/TKO (+330 for .25 units), Williams by KO/TKO in R2/3 (+700 for .25 units) and Namajunas by KO/TKO in R2/3 (+500 for.25 units). The last prop bet is a hedge after seeing the Billy Q potential arm injury. Since he’s on two parlays, I sprinkled .25 units on Zalal by KO/TKO at +750 to be on the safe side to hopefully cover an injury-related stoppage. That’s a total of 10 bets out for 3.75 units on this week’s card. Best of luck to everyone betting on this card and enjoy the fights!
