It’s Fight Week for UFC Vegas 89, and although the card is a bit underwhelming as a whole, there are still a handful of fights that should be pretty entertaining. The main event will feature Amanda Ribas and “Thug” Rose Namajunas facing off in a clash of ranked flyweight contenders. Beyond that, there a few good matchups that I’m looking forward to such as Payton Talbott vs Cameron Saaiman and Billy Quarantillo vs Youssef Zelal.
My first bet for this weekend’s card is a two-leg money line parlay featuring Namajunas and Quarantillo on DraftKings for +124. With a lot of unknown and/or untrustworthy fighters on this card from a betting perspective, I’m going to take a shot on two of the ones that I have the most faith in on this lineup: Thug Rose and Billy Q.
Namajunas will be attempting to halt a two-fight losing streak, and I feel like this is a great matchup for her to do just that. Ribas is dangerous on the ground but has shown she can be beat up and put away on the feet vs solid striking. As long as Rose shows up motivated, she should get this one done rather comfortably and potentially via TKO. Quarantillo is facing a short-notice opponent in Zelal, who will be returning to the UFC for a second stint for this fight. While Zelal is a decent wrestler and grappler, Quarantillo should be levels above him in the striking with the takedown defense and get up game to keep this one mostly on the feet and he will likely pour on the volume in this one as the fight progresses. Zelal is durable and has never been stopped, but Quarantillo should get this one done on the scorecards via damage.
Since there aren’t a lot of great spots on this one that jump out to me for betting, it’s probably going to be another light weekend for me. Nine of the 12 fights listed on DraftKings are currently favored to go “Over” on the Total Rounds, meaning we’re likely in for a lot of decisions on some relatively close matchups on paper. I’ll be looking at the prop markets as they open, particularly on the fights that I feel have a good chance to end inside the distance.
As you might have noticed if you follow our site or social accounts, I have been putting together some fighter graphics for most of the UFC cards and plan to continue to do so in the future. To make it easier to find graphics for specific cards here on the OddSmokerMMA website, I’ll either be creating a post for each event with the graphics that I put together in one little package or posting them with the picks/bets for that week.
This week’s package is a small one, including only 4 designs that I put together for various fighters on the lineup. Feel free to use them on your social media accounts or anywhere else and shoutouts are always appreciated. You can find more of my graphics work in the OddSmokerMMA Gallery. If you’re interested in a shirt featuring one of these graphics, or seeing graphics made for specific fighters, contact me or leave a comment below.
