We’re returning to the Apex this weekend for UFC Vegas 79. We have eleven fights scheduled for today’s card and it will be headlined by Rafael Fiziev and Mateusz Gamrot in a battle of ranked lightweights. This is the last event of the UFC’s 17-week run of consecutive weekends with a fight card. Weigh-ins actually went rather smoothly this week, with all 22 fighters successfully making weight yesterday. One fighter to keep an eye is Dan Argueta, who was the last fighter to the scales by a decent amount of time and looked like he might have had a tough time making the limit.

My favorite picks for this weekend’s card are Rafael Fiziev, Bryce Mitchell, Bryan Battle, and Mohammad Usman. I expect all four fighters to be live for finishes in their respective matchups and should have pretty clear paths to victory. I think Mitchell will be able to work his takedowns against Ige and should be able to rack up control time for a clear decision or even a late sub. Battle has massive advantages in size and reach and should be the more dangerous fighter in his matchup with AJ Fletcher. Usman might not be his brother, as his opponent pointed out at the faceoff, but he should be close enough to get past Jake Collier and could see it by early KO too. The official betting card this weekend is a mix of two-leg parlays, underdog money lines, and a couple of prop bets. The parlays: Fiziev ML + Mitchell ML (+143) and Usman ML + Battle ML (+165). The two underdogs I thought were worth making a play on are Tim Means (+165) and Ricardo Ramos (+120). The prop bets I took a stab at are Ramos by Dec (+325) and Mitchell by R2/R3 Sub (+1200). Ige has never been finished, but I expect Mitchell to have a lot of success on the ground in this one and he could easily snatch something down the stretch. The two parlays and money line bets are for one unit each and put .25 units on each of the two prop bets. I also have two untracked UFC/NFL plays out which need Usman ML and Fiziev R4/5/Dec to cash, respectively.
